The main objective of the MAEC – AECID Lectureship Scholarships is to promote Spanish language and culture studies in foreign universities, thus strengthening academic development and contributing to the acquisition of teaching experience for future specialists in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language.

Those people of Spanish nationality who have a bachelor’s, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree in the branch of knowledge of Arts and Humanities or Social and Legal Sciences in careers can opt to be beneficiaries of one of the MAEC – AECID Lectureship Scholarships. indicated in the call.

Applicants for a vacant or new associateship

a. Spanish nationality.

b. Academic degree: those interested who have any of the degrees listed below and are registered in the Registry of Universities, Centers and Degrees (RUCT) may choose.

Doctor, Bachelor’s, Master’s or Degree in the branch of knowledge of Arts and Humanities, corresponding to any of these disciplines: Spanish, Philology, Literature, Languages, Humanities (referred to the title, not to the branch of knowledge), Translation, Interpreting of Languages or Linguistics.

Doctor, Graduate, University Master’s or Degree in any of the disciplines of the branches of knowledge of Art and Humanities (other than those mentioned in the previous section) or Social and Legal Sciences. In addition, they must have specific training in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language studied in Spanish institutions and accredited by at least one of the following qualifications: Teaching Accreditation Diploma from the Instituto Cervantes (Autonomous DADIC minimum score 55 points), Master’s Degree in Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE), ELE University Diploma with a minimum of 30 ECTS credits, ELE Expert with a minimum of 200 hours, ELE Specialist with a minimum of 200 hours.

c. Specific training in the didactics of Spanish.

d. Teaching experience of the Spanish language, and/or Literature in Spanish. e) Knowledge of the official language of the requested country, or another habitually accepted in it as university communication.

F. Not be subject to any of the prohibitions indicated in article 13.2 of Law 38/2003. However, the prohibition contained in section f) of said Law is excluded, as established in the third base of the aforementioned Order AEC/1098/2005 that regulates this call.

g. Be up to date, where appropriate, with Spanish tax and Social Security obligations.

h. Age, not exceeding 37 years on the first day of the month in which the assistantship requested for this call begins.


The amount of the assistantship will be distributed in the following concepts:

a. Monthly aid according to the list in annex I by country and destination university, from which the legally established tax withholding will be deducted.

The aid will be effective from the 25th of each month, except for the first two monthly installments that may be paid in advance, and separately, when the reader has justified their incorporation to the destination as indicated in base 9.6. The payment will be made by bank transfer in Spain to the current account of the reader.

The payment of the aid will be for the period indicated in the partial award resolution, being conditioned to what is established in bases 7 and 11 of this call.

b. The month in which the face-to-face incorporation to the university takes place, the corresponding monthly payment will be paid in accordance with base 7.3 and a complementary monthly payment for the amount established in Annex I. The complementary monthly payment will be paid once said face-to-face incorporation is justified. according to the base 9.6.

c. Insurance: travel and accident assistance during the term of the assistantship. The AECID will provide travel assistance and accident insurance with the company Inter Partner Assistance S.A. Spain branch, member of the AXA group, from the beginning of the readership until July 31, 2024. As of August 1, 2024, and until the end date of the granting of the readership, each reader will choose a company, register and pay the cost of travel assistance and accident insurance. The insurance will consist of the contracting by the reader of an international multi-risk insurance policy for assistance abroad and accident insurance. The assistance insurance abroad must guarantee the following minimum coverage:

Health coverage: medical, pharmaceutical and hospitalization expenses abroad.

Transportation or medical repatriation of wounded and sick.

Transfer or repatriation of mortal remains.

Private civil liability abroad.

Any other specific coverage that may be required by the country of destination.

As of August 1, 2024, and until the end date of the concession period of the assistantship, the monthly payment will increase by €160 to cover the expenses derived from the individual contracting of said insurance.

d. €250 maximum for the acquisition of didactic material for teaching Spanish and shipping costs. Said material will be limited to what is necessary for the reader to carry out its functions. The purchase of material that is not directly related to the beneficiary will not be accepted, even if it is useful for the funds of the receiving department. The readers of the universities of the countries attached to the budget applications 12.302.143A.486.03 and 12.302.144A.481.01 (**) that appear in the corresponding column of Annex I may make this expense. The amount of the material will be reimbursed to the reader previous presentation of the relation of the material acquired, accompanied by the invoices or document of equivalent probative value. Each copy of the list must include: title, author, publisher and price with VAT. The deadline for submission -of the list and of the invoices- to request the subscription will end two months from the date of joining the course. Films and technical equipment are excluded from the material to be supplied.

and. Travel grants in compensation for travel expenses, stays and maintenance, to attend meetings of readers on topics or activities related to the functions of the program of assistantships. When the trip is outside the destination country, the reader will take out a travel assistance insurance policy during the time of stay outside the destination country, the expense of which will be included in the bag. The application will be submitted by the Embassy of Spain to the DCUC. The Directorate of Cultural and Scientific Relations, depending on budget availability, will rule on the authorization prior to the trip. In case of concession of the bag, the maximum amount of the same will be determined taking as reference the amounts established by Royal Decree 462/2002, of May 24, on compensation for service, for group 2.

F. A maximum of €200 to help carry out training courses in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language during the term of the assistantship. The amount will be reimbursed, upon presentation of the registration payment letter paid or supporting document of having made the payment, in the year 2024.

The amount and method of payment of the endowment charged to the universities will be the exclusive responsibility of each one of them, without the AECID having any responsibility for said payment.

The beneficiary will be subject, in what refers to tax obligations and Social Security contributions derived from the endowment of the destination university, to the provisions of the legislation of the corresponding country.


Form: the applications for a vacant, new or renewal assistantship will be submitted by the petitioners in the electronic form established at in a complete and truthful manner, with those applicants who allege data that is demonstrated being subsequently and automatically eliminated. not testable or false. Before filling out the online application form, interested parties must be registered at the AECID electronic headquarters, citizen folder, for identification and notification purposes.

a. Applicants will attach the related documentation in the corresponding field in electronic format, following the instructions contained in the electronic form.

b. Each applicant may indicate their preference for one of the universities listed in Annex I. The AECID may propose to applicants universities other than the one chosen, among those offered in this call, if they have given their agreement in the application form. .


Concession of subsidies -determined for each university and made up of different grants-, called lecturers, to teach Spanish in the foreign universities listed in annex I of this call.


The timetable for calculating deadlines will be established in accordance with the official calendar, date and time published on the AECID website. If the last day of the period is a non-business day of those indicated in the AECID electronic office, it will be understood as extended to the first following business day.

a. Application deadlines to record and send the electronic form. All the application deadlines will end at the end of the day established in accordance with the AECID electronic registry:

Vacant and new assistantships: from January 9 to 30, 2023.

Renewal assistantships with a start date between the months of July and October 2023: from January 9 to 18, 2023.

Renewal assistantships with start dates in December 2023 and January 2024: from April 24 to May 3, 2023.

b. Once the above deadlines have expired, the computer application will cease to be operational.

Once the application period has ended, each applicant will be notified by email of the publication in the AECID electronic headquarters of the list of admitted applicants and the provisional list of applicants with details of the requirement or requirements, if applicable, not accredited of the established in base 2. Likewise, defects in the presentation of the documentation related in base 4 will be communicated, if any. The applicant will have a period of 10 business days to attach the missing documentation in electronic format or correct the that had not been submitted correctly, After said period has elapsed without remedying the non-compliance with the requirement or the defect in the supporting documentation, in accordance with Article 68.1 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations, the person will be considered withdrawn in your request.

The rectification period will end at the end of the day established in accordance with the AECID electronic registry.

Duration of the assistantship and effects of payment

The assistantship is granted for the time that the academic activity object of this program exists in the corresponding university, within the period from July 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024 and according to the provisions of base 11 of this call.

The payment of the aid will be made effective from the month in which the incorporation to the destination university takes place, being canceled the previous monthly payment. If the incorporation takes place in the first fortnight, the entire monthly payment will be paid; if it occurs in the second, half of the monthly payment will be paid.

Only in the event of a delay in obtaining the visa due to reasons beyond the reader’s control and in coordination with the destination university, the payment of the monthly payments may be made if the activity of the assistantship begins, even if the reader has not been in person at the university. Said activity must be justified by means of documents that demonstrate the development of the teaching functions. After two months from the start date indicated in annex I of the call, and prior instruction on the procedure, the AECID may cancel the lecturing position.

The readers who finish the third year at the destination university, and those who are not going to renew for the following academic year, will be paid the monthly payments corresponding to the school period. The certificate justifying the end of the teaching activity will be signed
