Scholarships for Extending Studies and Scientific Improvement – Fundación Juan Esplugues
The Juan Esplugues Foundation Scholarships for Further Studies and Scientific Improvement are intended for graduates in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy or any other degree related to the biomedical field who wish to further their studies and carry out research work oriented towards these branches of study.
To be eligible for one of the Fundación Juan Esplugues Scholarships for Extending Studies and Scientific Improvement, you must not be over 35 years of age, in addition to meeting a series of requirements indicated by the convener.
The use and enjoyment of the Scholarships for Extending Studies and Scientific Improvement – Fundación Juan Esplugues may be carried out both within Spain and abroad, so that the people who are selected will have the opportunity to discover new study environments, as well as new cities or countries in which to enjoy endless personal experiences while broadening and improving their academic training.
The Juan Esplugues Foundation is a private cultural foundation of the Valencian Community that was created with the intention of facilitating the training of young researchers interested in the field of pharmacology.

The scholarships for further studies and scientific improvement can be applied for by all those individuals who meet the following requirements:
Be of legal age, be in full exercise of their civil rights and not exceed 35 years of age.
Have degrees in Medicine and Dentistry, Pharmacy or another degree related to the field of biomedical research at the time of the application.
Be attached to a Spanish or foreign research center or university department at the time of the scholarship application.
Applicants must meet all the requirements, conditions and procedures set forth in this Regulation.
The scholarship will have a monthly amount set in each biannual call by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, taking into account the financial situation and economic expectations of the latter. It is the responsibility of the scholarship holder to obtain, if necessary, the corresponding travel and health insurance, as well as to face the fiscal obligations derived from obtaining this scholarship.
The Foundation is expressly exonerated from any liability in relation to any damage, illness or accident suffered by the scholarship holder during the enjoyment of the scholarship, and the latter must, as indicated in the previous paragraph, obtain the appropriate insurance for this purpose.
All the required documentation must be sent to the Foundation through a means, physical or electronic, that certifies the reliable submission within the application period required for the enjoyment of the scholarship.
The Foundation will not return the submitted documentation.
Number and amount of scholarships
The Juan Esplugues Foundation finances biannually up to a maximum of 12 months of stay in research centers of excellence, both Spanish and, preferably, foreign. The exact number of months and the amount of the scholarships per month will be set every two years by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, taking into account the financial situation and economic expectations of the latter.
These scholarships will have a minimum duration of 1 month and a maximum of 4 months. The Board of Trustees of the Foundation, based on the number of existing applicants and the monthly payments requested by them, will proceed to distribute the total number of monthly payments offered biannually among the applicants and selected projects until covering, if it deems appropriate, the total number of up to 12 months offered biannually.
The offer of scholarships will be closed at the moment in which the biannual budget of up to 12 monthly scholarships offered is covered. The offer is reopened once the aforementioned period of 2 years has elapsed.
The Foundation reserves the right not to grant any scholarship, if it considers that the applications submitted during the biannual call period do not meet the requirements
Deadline for application
The Juan Esplugues Foundation maintains an open call for scholarships throughout the year, during the 24 months of validity of the call and until the planned monthly payments are exhausted. The application dates are as follows:
a. until March 15 of each year, for stays starting from August of the same year.
b. until July 15 of each year, for stays starting from January of the following year.
c. until October 15 of each year, for stays starting from March of the following year.
The opening and closing of said terms will be subject to the provisions of this Regulation.
The scholarship will be paid in a single payment to the current account designated for this purpose by the beneficiary. If the transfers made to the beneficiary’s account generate expenses, these will be deducted from future payments to be made.
Award of scholarships
The granting of scholarships for further studies and scientific improvement will be carried out by the Board of Trustees of the Foundation or the commission delegated by it.
The response to the submitted scholarship application will be made, at most, in the three months following the conclusion of the fixed application period.
The granting of the scholarship will be carried out by majority vote of the Board of Trustees, or delegated commission, based on the following criteria:
Quality of the project presented.
Curriculum vitae of the applicant.
Prestige of the destination center chosen to develop the project.
Curriculum vitae of the person who is going to direct the work of the intern at destination and trajectory of the research group to which he belongs.
Other merits that are claimed.
The granting of the scholarship will be communicated by email to the email address referred to by the applicant in the application form. The granting of the scholarship and the beneficiary’s data, as well as the project to be carried out and the destination center will be reflected in a freely accessible form on the Foundation’s website.
The decision to award or not award the Juan Esplugues Foundation scholarship made by the Board of Trustees of the Foundation or the commission delegated by it will be final.
The person who obtains the scholarship from the Juan Esplugues Foundation is obliged to:
Accept this and the conditions that accompany its concession and that are provided for in this Regulation expressly and in writing.
Dedicate the amount received exclusively and directly to the fulfillment of the study or research project presented.
Stay in the selected research center during the time of enjoyment of the scholarship.
Make a mention of obtaining the scholarship from the Juan Esplugues Foundation in any work or writing derived from the stay carried out.
Present, within a maximum period of two months from the conclusion of the scholarship, a final report on the stay, highlighting the results obtained and a certificate issued by said center in which the activity developed and the permanence of the scholarship holder are reported during the time of enjoyment of the scholarship at the end of the stay.
Give a master class or conference on the research carried out in the selected research center during the time the scholarship is held at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the University of Valencia.
In the case of renouncing the scholarship prior to moving abroad, the scholarship recipient is obliged to communicate said resignation to the Board of the Foundation as soon as possible, doing so in writing and through a mechanism that records the delivery.
In the case of renouncing the scholarship once transferred abroad, the scholarship recipient is obliged to communicate said resignation to the Foundation’s Board of Trustees as soon as possible, doing so in writing and through a mechanism that leaves a reliable record of the delivery. Unless the Board of Trustees of the Foundation deems it so expressly and justified, and taking into account the specific circumstances of the case, the scholarship holder will be obliged to return to the Juan Esplugues Foundation the proportional part of the scholarship paid on the day of the month in which it was received. submit the resignation.
Documentation to attach
All applicants must present the following documentation when applying for these scholarships from the Juan Esplugues Foundation:

Name of the destination center where the scholarship is intended to be awarded, its address and contact person.
Start and end dates of the stay for which financing is requested.
Express commitment to comply with all the conditions established in these Regulations in case of being selected as a scholarship holder of the Fundación Juan Esplugues.
b. Curriculum vitae of the applicant.
c. Curriculum vitae of the person under whose direction the proposed activity is going to be carried out or, where appropriate, the recent history of the research group in which the applicant is going to join.
d. Detailed explanatory report of the work proposal to be carried out in the selected destination center and objectives that are intended to be obtained from it.
and. Acceptance letter from the destination center where the stay is intended.
F. Photocopy of the DNI, NIE or Passport of the applicant.
g. Document accrediting compliance with the academic training requirements necessary to apply for the Foundation scholarship.
h. Document accrediting the relationship with a research center or university department by the applicant.
Yo. Information about the bank, branch and account number in which the scholarship must be deposited if selected by the Foundation.
j. Affidavit of not enjoying another scholarship or aid for the development of the stay at the time of applying for the scholarship.
k. In the case of stays abroad, reliable verification of knowledge of the language of the country to visit or of the English language.
